Women Of The Lens Film Festival partners with
Hyde Park Picture House to celebrate 50 years of the
Blaxploitation film genre!
In celebration of 50 years of Blaxploitation, Women Of The Lens Film Festival and Hyde Park Picture House is working in partnership with Park Circus to present a programme of films during the UK’s Black History Month this October.
Women Of The Lens Film Festival will join the programme on Sat 7th October on Women’s where we’ll look at the significant impact of the women of the genre on popular culture.
What’s more on the day, we’ll be highlighting the influence of Blaxploitation’s fashion on society too.
This programme has been co-curated with author Josiah Howard an expert in the Blaxploitation genre, and Women Of The Lens Film Festival. Joshiah is the author of the influential book, Blaxploitation Cinema; The Essential Reference Guide.
The programme also taps into the Picture House’s Cinema Africa! strand with inclusion of South African Blaxploitation film, Joe Bullet. This film comes with a contextual introduction by African film curator Mosa Mpetha.
The programme is supported by The Music House in Leeds, who are creating an inhouse band to learn and perform the classics of the era.
Don’t miss out on what will be an eventful and engaging programme!
